Procedural Modeling of Crystals

Studying the modeling and rendering of crystals, using mostly VDB and noise techniques in Houdini SOP’s and VOPS.

I’ve made my version of a tool to generate different shapes in a easy way. Also occlusion and details, cracks and other surface imperfections.

Most of the shaping work can be done from the exposed UI parameters, I also generated two switches to turn on details once the main shape has been defined.

With the HDA created a I can begin exploring different shapes and surface details.

Houdini is the perfect tool for this type of modeling, and these experiments help me develop my skills in modeling, scene layout , shading and lighting.
